Author Message Wrigley Joined: 04-11-2009 Posts: 37 Posted: 15-02-2010, 3:52 PM Nearly 3 weeks, Blue&Me problem, couple of other issues! Hi all, Having had the joy of owning Betty for nearly 3 weeks, we've had a couple of Blue&Me issues. Reading forums, seems the problems are common. - Blue&Me will not listen to me at all anymore. Can't use the phone through Blue&Me as can't be heard. Seems the mic has packed up. - When listening to the Ipod, after about a week, when you skipped to the next song, it would display the name but not play. On the advice of someone, I disconnected the battery quickly, and tried again, and all was well and all songs played as normal.....for about another 5 days. Same problem, had to disconnect the battery and reconnect to resolve this. Not sure what's causing this but something that shouldn't happen. - Can be a bugger to start sometimes. - Got out the other day, when the left indicator started going crazy for about 2 seconds. Couldn't identify what the problem was though. - The left indicator sometimes switches off automatically as it should, sometimes it doesn't, so have to cancel it myself. - Average fuel consumption is 38mpg (for a 1.2). Got a feeling this is a little low? - What a pain to keep the rear clean!!!! However much I hate the look of them, I think we'll be getting some mudflaps. Just a quick question, does anyone recommend a service after 1,000 or so miles? Think it's just an oil change and general check-up....has anyone done this? Booked in for next week so we'll see what the dealer has to say. Other than that, nice drive. Hi Wrigley I have had my car for 9 weeks and I am experiencing some of the problems you are. My Blue&Me doesn't seem to work anymore when anybody rings I can hear them but they can't hear me. The other day I actually tried to use my phone (not through the Blue&Me) whilst in my car and my phone wouldn't work at all. My left indicator sometimes doesn't switch off automatically. I am also considering getting mud flaps as my car looks filthy after it has been cleaned 5 minutes after driving it. Apart from these things I really love it though. :o) phil Joined: 12-07-2007 Posts: 1,418 Location: jockland Posted: 15-02-2010, 11:04 PM Re: Nearly 3 weeks, Blue&Me problem, couple of other issues! hi folks i haven't a clue about the blue and me issues ..my grande is 06 plate and never had an issue with blue and me...possible due to having a 10cd disc changer in the boot ,maybe it's having problems with being able to carry out all the tasks it was designed for ..ie ipod etc ..there have been multiple reports of mic packing up...think a new mic is out ..though i would imagine both your cars would have the latest mic point to note the voice is female ,and as such won't listen or reply to anyone anyway ,so the system is probably ok lol all my fiats have had problems with self cancelling indicators ..on approaching a roundabout they cancel when you want them to stay on and then stay on when exiting ,when you want them to cancel lol...no doubt that isn't an issue in italy as they rely on main beam flash and the horn to indicate their intentions ....lol ehhh .....must ask how can your car get dirty in suffolk ????....always sunny there disconnecting the battery usually resets the ecu's...hence everything will work again ..has anyone foned a dealer to se what they have to say ??? phil Mungus Joined: 04-11-2009 Posts: 37 Posted: 16-02-2010, 12:19 PM Re: Nearly 3 weeks, Blue&Me problem, couple of other issues! Hi Wrigley, I read your post yesterday with a slightly smug expression as my Blue&Me has been working with no problems (although I haven't got beyond pairing up my phone, I haven't tried to get the voice bit working as I rarely get calls in the car). Then this morning, Toot failed to recognise my iPod or my Ecodrive USB stick! Serves me right. I think disconnecting the battery seems rather drastic so I'm hoping that all will magically work on my drive home tonight. Otherwise I'll call the dealer and see what they have to say. And Phil - enough of the sexism! phil Joined: 12-07-2007 Posts: 1,418 Location: jockland Posted: 16-02-2010, 6:12 PM Re: Nearly 3 weeks, Blue&Me problem, couple of other issues! sexism me ???? shock horror lol...me thinks the lads on here chuckle ..it's all good fun as you say disconnecting the battery is drastic ,and it is best to take the car to a dealer ..though it can help engine issues in an emergency ,and even though it will clear the fault ,it will then put the fault from pendingerrors to stored errors ,so the error code to assist the dealer in diagnosis is still there ....i will suggest that you note the time and date of warnings and how often the warning comes on ..as you sometimes have multiple stored errors ,which don't always put on a warning ..some faults will give time and date of occurrence ..so the more info you give the dealership the better your chance,as it isn't always a case of plugging in a laptop and fixing it ..obviously the examiner is required ,the mechanic has to undestand what it is telling them... phil Mungus Joined: 04-11-2009 Posts: 37 Posted: 17-02-2010, 1:44 PM Re: Nearly 3 weeks, Blue&Me problem, couple of other issues! Well as if by magicmy ipod and Blue&me started talking to each other about half way through my journey to work this morning. Not especially reassuring but it's the sort of fix us girlies like... ;-) zanadoo Joined: 18-05-2009 Posts: 407 Location: Not Oxon anymore but Berks! I am not holding out much hope for my blue & me after reading this forum! I went to pay for the car yesterday (picking up 1st March) and the salesman took me through the controls, paired my phone etc. He then tried to demonstrate the voice activation, and it wouldn't work! It dialled every number but the one we were shouting out. The salesman used the excuse that the door was open and it was picking up the background noise, but did the same once the door was shut!! Not a major problem for me, I don't really like using the phone in the car anyway. I can answer it, and dial (if I really have to) using the controls. I can't multi-task anyway, talking and operating a car at the same time is a major upheaval for me!!!! Talking is my priority (obviously, I am female!) so the driving goes out the window!! Although, I am a little bit curious about the system reading out text messages. The salesman mentioned that not all phones are compatible - does this work for most people? Hi Capirossi You can see a list of Blue&Me compatible phones at http://195.88.6.192/blue_and_me/tab_com.html the list is not very up to date, but your car will come fitted with the newer version of Blue&Me which was developed to be compatible with a greater number of mobile phones. I'm a bit baffled by the Blue&Me phone thing, but as I don't really need it I haven't persued it too much. I have a Nokia 6300 which is quite an old model now, but there are loads of them about and the list isn't entirely clear as to what it should or shouldn't do. It pairs up and exchanges contacts but doesn't do anything when texts come in. I've been through all the menus and can't see any configuration settings for it (apart from visual or audible prompting) so I fugure it just doesn't work. As long as my iPod stays working (which it still is, no problems since the one reported above) I'm happy! It is right, in this era of rising economy consciousness, that the Fiat 500 should be the first among Europe’s modern small cars to feature a bespoke twin cylinder engine, and thus to reap improvements up to 30 percent in low fuel consumption and CO2 output. The company has always had the courage to use radical technical solutions first, and the 500 has two-cylinder heritage, too: its ancestors have often featured low-priced twin-cylinder variants. See exclusive test pics of the Fiat 500 TwinAir However, this new super-economical TwinAir is different in one key respect. This time, two cylinders don’t mean lower prices. When the 500 Twinair hits the market this September its price will be similar to that of the present 99bhp 1.4-litre version, pitched around £1400 above the entry-level 1.2 litre petrol four. Fiat's argument is that TwinAir is packed with technology, and brings spectacular economy. It delivers similar performance to the 1.4 (a top speed of 108 mph and a 0-62 mph time of 11.0 seconds) with an amazing 30 per cent economy improvement. Its tiny engine features the MultiAir electro-hydraulic valve propulsion system the company has been rolling out with other engines, which cuts pumping losses and improves efficiency by around 10 percent. Maintenance is low: TwinAir has both hydraulic tappets and long-life spark plugs, so ordinary servicing should be cheap. The 500 TwinAir also features a standard stop-start system. What is more, its tiny internals cut friction to new lows, and its tiny turbo allows quick throttle response and practically eliminates turbo lag. It also promotes low-end torque, which amounts to an impressive 107lb ft at 1900rpm. Even more amazing is the fact that it produces fully 25 per cent more torque at that speed than the 1.4-litre. This, surely, is the way of the future. What’s it like To put TwinAir’s achievements into perspective, Fiat engine guru Paolo Martinelli explains that a suite of engine improvements over the past 15 years have delivered about a 15 per cent average cut in European cars' CO2 outputs. The new TwinAir offers the same improvement again – in just one step. Eventually, the TwinAir will be come in three power levels: 64bhp, today's 84bhp and a 104bhp variant. Together, they could replace the entire 500/Panda engine range, though Fiat doesn't suggest they will. But it does say production at the Polish manufacturing plant will hit 400,000 units, very soon. As well as being 23 per cent shorter than a normal four, this tiny 900cc, eight-valve, turbocharged parallel twin (which features a balance shaft to damp the first order vibration) is 7kg lighter than Fiat's current 1.2-litre non-turbo FIRE four, and 13kg lighter than the 1.4-litre. It is, in effect, a briefcase-sized powerhouse, which drives through the owner’s choice of either a five-speed manual gearbox or Fiat's two-pedal semi-automatic gearbox, called Dualogic. Ours was a manual. Steve Cropley blog: Embrace TwinAir - it's the future On the road, the 500 TwinAir is deeply impressive. Only at idle and under full acceleration are you truly aware of the engine's twin-cylinder format, and even then the noise is gruffly enjoyable and the balancer shaft keeps things four-cylinder smooth. We were able to cruise quietly at 90mph, more conscious of wind than engine noise, though other testers complained of a 'drone' which suggests some variability among early-build cars. Despite its high specific output the car seemed relaxed, right up to its relaxed 6000 rpm redline, which you're encouraged to visit regularly. At an even 90mph (measured by sat-nav) the engine was pulling just 4000rpm in fifth. Fiat engineers claim there is 25 per cent more torque at 1900rpm than in the 1400, and it certainly felt that way. But the slightly odd sounds and vibes suggest that owners that will need slightly longer than we had with the car to get the best out of it. Should I buy one? Well, it looks pricey. And a twin-cylinder engine is unconventional. Early adopters will need to be open-minded to choose this model over a conventional 1.4-litre. But the economy is a spectacular 69mpg combined, with a CO2 output of just 95 g/km when the gearbox is the test car's manual, or 92 g/km with the Dualogic automated manual. As well as saving the planet, such economy has the virtue of increasing the 500's marginal touring range by 60-80 miles. There’s a twin-clutch TwinAir about a year away, which should be even better. In summary, the TwinAir shows that amazing advances are possible in the practical efficiency of small cars, and it makes an invaluable addition to Fiat's small-car range — already the lowest-polluting in Europe — that other manufacturers must surely envy. For potential customers it’s a great ownership proposition, and a lot of simple fun.
